Debra Mann, jazz pianist, vocalist, songwriter, recording artist, and bandleader, graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and has performed extensively throughout the New England area in jazz clubs, concerts, and festivals. She has been a guest soloist with the Boston Pops, and has performed at the request of Frank Sinatra.
Debra Mann is the proverbial big fish in a small pond, and as far as jazz goes, she is in a class all her own as Rhode Island’s premiere jazz vocalist & pianist. She has performed throughout New England for three decades, but her roots are deeply planted in this humble little state, and it’s where you will find her performing most weekends with her jazz trio. She has been called a triple threat since, in addition to her piano and vocal talents, she is a seasoned songwriter and recording artist (Jobe Records) with several CD’s to her credit, adding even greater dimension to the artistry of Debra Mann.
Ms. Mann has released three CD recordings with her jazz trio on her record label, Jobe Records. “From the Heart”, was nominated “best local recording” by the Providence Phoenix. Her recording, “A Time for Love”, was celebrated at a sold out CD release performance at Chan’s, RI’s premier jazz club. Her most recent recording, “Home”, was placed on the Official Ballot for the 2010 Grammy Awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in several categories.
Debra has performed throughout the northeast corner of the US for 3 decades, and was deeply influenced by the music of Joni Mitchell from her folk years through her exploration into jazz. Debra’s band features the mega talents of Dino Govoni (sax), Steve DeConti (guitar), Dave Zinno (bass), & Marty Richards (drums). Together they interpret the iconic music of Joni Mitchell through a jazz lens.
